What is the A2 CofC Drone Training course?
Harry and Duncan your drone training team give a quick overview of what the course is and what you can expect:
The A2 CofC is the training course and qualification needed to operate in the A2 Subcategory of the OPEN Category under the new UAS regulations. The course consists of four modules which you can access via our online Learning Portal.
Once you’ve completed your online training and some guided or self-study practical flight training, you’ll complete a multiple-choice Theory Exam (30 questions). Note that the self-guided practical flight training includes submissions of logbooks in order to progress to the exam and this is mandatory from the CAA for all RAE’s.
The A2 CofC drone training course covers theory such as the basic principles of flight, operating in congested areas, how to avoid collisions, battery safety, and how to operate depending on a range of environmental factors.
The A2 CofC qualification lasts for five years before you need to renew it.

Can I still operate on PfCO?
Yes, as long as it is valid. Ensure you renew it!

How do I take the A2 CofC exam from home?
Our exams are invigilated online by a third party using their own remote support software.
The invigilator will check your surroundings via your webcam to ensure you are alone and aren’t using any notes to cheat on the exam, but you won’t be able to physically talk to them, you can only communicate through the chat.
You’re not allowed to have any materials present, including pen and paper.
Please note: If your internet is provided by Talk Talk you will need to turn off the HomeSafe setting as this blocks the remote support software.

Can I take the exam on my phone?
Unfortunately not. To sit the final exam you will need to have access to a computer with a webcam and a working microphone.
Most computers have webcams built-in but if yours doesn’t, you can use an external USB webcam.

What else do I need to sit the A2 CofC exam?
The only thing you need to have with you on exam day is a form of valid photo ID such as a passport or driver’s license.

Where can I operate once I have my A2 CofC?
With the A2 CofC you can not carry out any overflight of uninvolved persons. If you’re planning on using your drone for commercial operations, you may find this enormously restrictive.
COURSE FORMAT
Welcome to Coptrz Academy
Now that you're enrolled you'll have access to our exclusive Coptrz Pilots group where you can chat to experienced Coptrz Alumni and network to your heart's content before you begin your training on Friday.
Module 1: Air Law and Responsibilities
The legal stuff. Develop a strong understanding of the rules and regulations around flying UAV in the UK, learn your responsibilities as a UAV operator, how to report accidents and more.
Module 2: Meteorology
More commonly known as the weather and a major part of any UAV operation.
Module 3: UAS General Knowledge
Knowing how your aircraft operates is essential for safe flying. This module teaches you all about the principles of flight and how to know if your drone is safe to fly.
Module 4: UAS Operating Principles
Bring all of your knowledge together in this final module about VLOS, identifying congested areas, collision avoidance and more.
Pass the Mock Exam
How do you know if you're ready to tackle the final exam? Your knowledge will be tested in our mock exam to make sure you're 100% ready to sit the final exam.
Practical Flight Assessment
Next, you move on to a period of practical flight training. This is done under self-monitored conditions with a workbook to keep you on track. COPTRZ are looking for >4 logged hours of flight time since enrolling onto the course, and some flight experience beforehand.
Pass the Final Exam
Time to put your hard work to the final test. Pass the 30 question multiple-choice exam to receive your Certificate of Competency.
