Designed For Automated Flight, Not Adapted To It

Most drones are designed around a pilot with a controller in their hands. The Matrice 5TD is designed around automated operation. It lives inside DJI Dock 4, launches when a mission is triggered, flies a planned route and returns on its own.

There’s no remote controller and no standalone mode. The Matrice 5TD flies from Dock 4 only, and it’s the only dock aircraft in the range, so thermal imaging comes as standard.

Every part of the aircraft supports that job: sensing that keeps it safe without someone watching, cameras that cover several tasks in one flight, and AI that helps turn footage into findings.

The Matrice 5TD is supplied as part of DJI Dock 4. Explore DJI Dock 4

Several Sensors, One Flight

Super tele, medium tele and thermal cameras share one gimbal with a laser rangefinder. With only one aircraft on site, it has to handle inspection, monitoring and incident response equally well, without landing to swap payloads.

  • 11x optical zoom and up to 176x digital, enough to read number plates from around 400m
  • 1280×1024 thermal, which can be overlaid on the visual cameras
  • Laser rangefinder that measures distances up to 3km
  • RYYB sensor that takes in up to 40% more light, with faster shutter speeds for clearer night images
  • Full panoramas in 32 seconds, 2.4x faster than before

Built-in radars

Obstacle Sensing That Picks Out 11mm Wires

With nobody on site to watch the aircraft, it has to read its own surroundings. The Matrice 5TD combines built-in radars, a LiDAR-based sensing module on top of the airframe and two fisheye sensors on the front corners.

The sensing module now sees in colour rather than black and white, and can pick up wires as thin as 11mm. It’s there purely to keep the aircraft safe, not for survey data capture. That gives control room operators more confidence to launch remotely, near power lines and busy structures included.

Built-in parachute

A Fail-Safe For Flying Without A Pilot On Site

If the parachute is triggered manually, the aircraft detects an anomaly or it breaches a geofence, the motors stop and the parachute deploys. The aircraft then flashes its lights and drops a pin on the map, so your team knows exactly where to recover it.

AI-powered operations

An Aircraft That Does More Of The Watching

AI runs through the Matrice 5TD’s work, from the moment it deploys to the report your team receives afterwards.

Object detection in flight

AI recognises 17 types of object, including vehicles, fire and smoke, so operators know where to look without scrubbing through every minute of video.

Analysis and reporting

Captured data is analysed and compiled into reports, cutting the manual review that usually follows a flight.

Live annotation and two-way streaming

Annotate the live stream in the DJI app to alert the remote pilot or control room, and stream from a phone back to DJI FlightHub for two-way video.

Secure and compliant

Built for organisations that need clear control over their data, from public sector bodies to critical infrastructure operators.

Use cases

What Teams Use The Matrice 5TD For

One aircraft on site, ready for whichever job comes in next.

Public safety

Eyes on the incident

Send the aircraft to a reported incident and stream live video back to the control room while crews are still travelling. Fire and smoke are flagged automatically.

Utilities and energy

Close-up inspection

Move from an overview of a substation or line to a detailed look at a single component, all on one flight.

Security

Patrols at any hour

Fly scheduled patrols and respond to alarms. Read number plates from around 400m and let object detection pick out vehicles.

Infrastructure

Consistent repeat data

Capture the same views from the same routes every time, making changes on site easier to spot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about the Matrice 5TD’s cameras, safety features, dock operation and pricing.

What Is The DJI Matrice 5TD?
The DJI Matrice 5TD is the aircraft supplied with DJI Dock 4. It’s built for automated dock operations, with multiple cameras and sensors integrated into one gimbal and built-in radars for reliable flight, so it can launch, complete a mission and return without a pilot on site.
Can The Matrice 5TD Fly Without DJI Dock 4?
No. The Matrice 5TD flies from DJI Dock 4 only and doesn’t come with a remote controller. For piloted operations, DJI offers the Matrice 5T, which carries the same camera payload and is flown with its own controller.
How Is The Matrice 5TD Different From The Matrice 4TD?
The Matrice 4TD is the aircraft for DJI Dock 3, while the Matrice 5TD is the aircraft for DJI Dock 4. The 5TD adds 1280×1024 thermal, a 3km laser rangefinder, a built-in parachute and battery swapping in the dock. Unlike the 4TD, it can’t be flown with a remote controller.
What Happens If The Matrice 5TD Has A Problem In Flight?
The aircraft has a built-in parachute. If it’s triggered manually, the aircraft detects an anomaly or it breaches a geofence, the motors stop and the parachute deploys. The aircraft then flashes and drops a pin on the map so it can be recovered.
How Much Does The DJI Matrice 5TD Cost In The UK?
Pricing depends on your Dock 4 configuration, installation and support requirements. Speak to our enterprise team for UK pricing on 0330 111 7177.
