COLIN WHYTE, NEAL ROOFING
“I would like to say a big thank you to your team members who have helped through the whole process and to Harry for the flight assessment, who stood on a cold hillside in Leeds was still professional and friendly throughout.
We will definitely recommend COPTRZ to anyone regarding drone training in the future.”
COURSE FORMAT
Our PfCO to GVC conversion course includes the same information as the usual GVC course, but, because you already have a PfCO you’ll know a lot of the course content already.
GVC Certificates are valid for 5 years from issue and can be used to apply to the CAA for an Operational Authorisation to operate UAS in the SPECIFIC category. The GVC course consists of nine modules which you can access on our Online Training Portal.
After you’ve completed the online learning, you’ll complete a multiple-choice theory exam (40 questions) to check your understanding of the nine modules.
MODULE 1: AIR LAW AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The legal stuff. Develop a strong understanding of the rules and regulations around flying UAV in the UK, learn your responsibilities as a UAV operator, how to report accidents and more.
MODULE 2: AIRSPACE OPERATING PRINCIPLES
Much like learning the rules of the road when driving, this module takes you through the 'rules of the air'. Learn how to operate safely, identify congested areas, avoid collisions with other airspace users and more.
MODULE 3: AIRMANSHIP AND AVIATION SAFETY
Good Airmanship is all about knowledge, preparation and practice.
MODULE 4: HUMAN PERFORMANCE LIMITATIONS
You wouldn't drive your car if you were fatigued or under the influence of alcohol, so would you operate your drone under the same circumstances? Learn the human limitations you need to consider before taking off.
MODULE 5: NAVIGATION AND CHARTS
Knowing where your going is an essential part of operating a drone! Learn how to read ordnance surveys, aviation charts and identify other air activity in this module.
MODULE 6: METEOROLOGY
More commonly known as the weather and a major part of any UAV operation.
MODULE 7: AIRCRAFT KNOWLEDGE
Knowing how your aircraft operates is essential for safe flying. This module teaches you all about the basic principles of flight and how to know if your drone is safe to fly.
MODULE 8: OPERATING PROCEDURES
In this module, learn how to plan for your flight, identify potential hazards, mitigate risks and what to do in an emergency.
MODULE 9: OPERATIONS MANUAL
Learn about what you need to include in your operations manual and how to make your application to the CAA in the final module.
FAQ
-
What if I don't pass the exam?
Included in this course is one free exam token. If you fail the exam, you can re-sit it until you pass.
-
Do I have to convert my PfCO to a GVC?
It’s important to understand that a PfCO is the legacy permission given by the CAA prior to 2021. The GVC is the qualification gained in order to apply for an Operational Authorisation with the CAA.
By December 31st 2023, all remote pilots must hold a GVC qualification to operate under an operational authorisation, but you can still apply for an operational authorisation with your PfCO until then.
-
What are the benefits of converting my PfCO to a gvc?
Our GVC conversion course will ensure you’re prepared in advance for the upcoming 2023 deadline. It also allows you to expand your knowledge, for example, you can add on our BVLOS (Beyond visual line of sight) Module 1 bolt-on course to your course.
-
How long will it take to complete this course and is it difficult?
The course content takes on average 6-8 hours to complete. You will also need to submit your operations manual to be assessed and signed off by our training team.
-
How much is the course?
Our PfCO to GVC Conversion Course is free! The only costs involved are the exam fee (£247 +vat) and on some occasions, a flight test (if applicable).
