Kerry Blakeman, from the West Midlands Drone Network, highlights the significant impact of this technology. “Drones give us flexibility, acting as an eye in the sky where fixed cameras can’t reach,” he explains. This enhanced perspective allows traffic teams to monitor congestion and incidents in real-time, reducing delays and improving road efficiency.

    Simplified and Flexible Procurement Processes

The Act aims to create a more straightforward and adaptable procurement system, allowing buyers to tailor procurement procedures to better suit specific technology needs. This flexibility is designed to foster innovation and improve the efficiency of acquiring technological solutions.

    Enhanced Transparency

A central digital platform will be established to facilitate the publication of procurement notices and documents. This platform will make it easier for buyers to access information about potential suppliers and technological offerings, promoting informed decision-making and accountability throughout the procurement lifecycle.

    Increased Supplier Diversity

The Act encourages the inclusion of small businesses and social enterprises in public procurement. For technology buyers, this means a broader range of suppliers to choose from, potentially leading to more innovative and cost-effective technological solutions.

    Improved Supplier Performance Management

The legislation provides mechanisms for taking action against underperforming suppliers and excluding those that pose unacceptable risks. This empowers technology buyers to maintain higher standards and reliability in their procurement choices.

    Standardised Payment Terms

The Act strengthens provisions for prompt payment throughout the supply chain, enabling buyers to benefit from 30-day payment terms on a broader range of public sector contracts. This standardisation will improve financial planning and relationships with technology suppliers.
