Professor Robert Richardson
Within the School of Mechanical Engineering at Leeds, Robert is the director of the Multi-disciplinary Institute of Design, Robotics and Optimisation at the University of Leeds (~70 members). He is a Fellow of the IMechE.
He has key roles in many large-scale research projects including, Pipebots, Trustworthy Autonomous Systems and AMPI (advanced machinery and productivity institute). He has also led an international team to develop and deploy robots into the Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt, developed and deployed autonomous surface water survey robots to map glacial melt lakes in Nepal, and developed robotic systems for autonomous COVID disinfection trialled in airports and city centres.
Dr Bilal Kaddouh
Bilal is a Lecturer in Aerial Robotics, at the University of Leeds, and an expert in unmanned aerial systems (UAS), robotics and autonomous systems. His work focuses on the design of autonomous aerial robots that inspect structures and perform structural maintenance in flight.
He leads the academic part of the UOL H&S drone policy. He is a certified drone pilot with 8 years of experience and has been involved in numerous flight tests in the UK and internationally. He designed and built an asphalt 3D printing UAS with ground manoeuvring capabilities and is currently researching and developing a UAV with manipulator for deploying and retrieving robots from high structures.
