ENGINEERING

The engineering and construction industries are based on the human relationships between many project stakeholders to achieve delivery excellence. Enhanced processes and digital tools cannot replace people, either as individuals or teams, but they are required to increase quality, reduce costs, mitigate safety risks and improve decision-making. Drones present increasingly attractive opportunities for achieving these goals.

MEDIA

In schools, Media Studies students have been able to explore the potential of different shot types thanks to 4K drones with gimbals that are relatively cheap for the level of technology on offer. Some film makers have even used drones (such as the Matrice 300 RTK) for ground shots thanks to the quality of camera and smoothness of the gimbal.

ROBOTICS

Drones are the most advanced equipment in the field of robotics, aeronautics and electronics. Universities offering robotics studies allow students to explore the programming and technical specifications of drones.

MARKETING

As the marketing space becomes more crowded, brands are looking for new ways to deliver exceptional content. And many are using drone marketing to do it—whether by creating high-quality visuals, physically delivering products to customers, or just adding a “wow” factor to their campaigns.

GEOGRAPHY

When completing fieldwork drones can be used to complete risk assessments by evaluating potential hazards from a distance. Drones are also a great way to engage young people in geography. Drones can be used to capture images and videos of fieldwork locations prior to taking students.

CONSTRUCTION

Drone technology is expected to uplift the Gross Domestic Product in the UK’s construction industry by £8.6bn to 2030. Many construction courses offered by universities and collages discuss applications of drone technology in the construction industry, including photogrammetry, mapping, thermal imaging and BIM.

ARCHAEOLOGY

Drones provide a useful low-level aerial platform for recording historic buildings, monuments, archaeological sites and landscapes. Drones can provide dramatic illustrative photographs of sites, but can also be used to create metrically accurate records for survey and conservation work.

PHYSICS

Understanding the physics behind how a drone operates is essential for any organisation running a UAV team. If you are going to be looking after potentially hundreds of drone pilots and drones, you need a stronger standard of understanding of how drones operate internally.
