My name is Sam, I’m the UAV Strategist for Public Safety across across the UK and I’m here to give you a little insight into drones for the emergency services.

The Marketing Team have kindly let me write a blog about what I do, and how Coptrz are helping Emergency Services across the UK adopt drone technology into their operations.

I’ve been working with the public safety sector for over 3 years now, and I have helped a number of different emergency services departments to create tailored drone solutions to make their operations easier, faster, safer and more cost-effective.

Here’s just a few:

  • Devon & Cornwall Police
  • Dorset Police
  • Leicester Police
  • Air Accidents Investigation Branch
  • Kent Fire and Rescue Service

In this blog I will run through some of the amazing ways drones are being used within the Public Safety/Emergency Services, and tell you all about our free drone training programme for Emergency Services across the UK.

Yep, we we provide free drone training for all Emergency Services in the UK.  Why?  Because we want to help, and we know that drones can save lives.  It’s as simple as that.

But, enough about that, here’s a few points on how drones can be useful for Emergency Services.

And no, there’s no catch involved with the free drone training.

Why are drones useful for the Emergency Services?

Thermal Imagery

Most people’s first experience of Thermal Imagery would have come from the movie Predator.  Man, what a film that is.  Still holds up now.

But, that film’s over 30 years old and a lot has happened since those heady days of Arnie running round a jungle spouting one-liners.  The technology is actually here, and Emergency Services up and down the UK are already using it to save lives, or apprehend criminals.

Why would you need this technology?

Combining high-quality thermal imaging technology with the correct platform allows emergency services to search large areas in a fraction of the time – often in areas where manned searches wouldn’t be able to reach.

You can read more about Thermography within the Emergency Services here.

Search and Rescue

This is all about saving lives.  The quicker you can find someone, the better chance they have of surviving.

Why wouldn’t you want that?

And, advancing technology allows real-time visual information and other location data to be transmitted to ground-teams so they can make fast and effect decisions from safety points. This makes your search and rescue missions faster, and safer for all involved.

You can read more about drones for search and rescue here.

Rapid Response

This is your scout.  The drone that can be deployed in a matter of seconds to give you the lay of the land.

Gone are the days of sticking your ear to the ground to understand what’s going on, these drones can spring immediately into action and provide quick, reliable insight into the unfolding situation through recorded photos and videos.

You can read more about rapid response here.

Mapping

I’m not talking about Google Maps here, I’m talking about fast-mapping software developed by titans like Pix4D.

This kind of mapping provides rapid and reliable information during disasters or crisis, allowing you to make critical decisions faster.

You can find out more about mapping within the emergency services here.
