Got the Monday blues? Well we here at COPTRZ have got some great news for you, straight from the newsdesk of DJI. The Zenmuse X7 has upgraded and now supports Apple ProRes Raw. This is a free update for users with the RAW activation package for Inspire 2/Zenmuse X7.

The upgrade will be enabled through new firmware patches, and this will see the Zenmuse X7 gain excellent performance enhancements. This will not only improve the image quality, but will mean it also gains performance enhancements.

According to DJI the new update will “increase the power and efficiency of the Zenmuse X7”, and for all you cinematographers out there it will also “reinforce its role in professional filmmaking as the world’s first Super35 digital camera designed for aerial cinematography”.

The new 14-bit recording capability will enable clearer capture of scenes with less noise, and will deliver smoother tones and colour transitions. There is an increase to depth recording per pixel, this will improve the overall image quality and is capable of performing even in difficult lighting situations, ideal for filmmakers.

The new and enhanced data processing performance also makes it more nimble and capable due to the improvements to its broader operating system capability and file systems. The new format allows for larger recordings to be filed, with up to 32GB to be saved in a singular file.

    When will it be available?

The first update will be available towards the end of April 2018, and this update offers the 14-Bit CinemaDNG recording. There will also be a second firmware update towards the end of May 2018. This will offer the Apple ProRes RAW support, and the new exFAT file system.

These are both free updates, and can be accessed as a download. They will be available through both DJI Assistant 2 or the DJI Go 4 mobile app. The 14-bit CinemaDNG and ProRes RAW capabilities are only available to those with a CinemaDNG license.
